There’s nothing like giving kids a front-row introduction to the classics, especially when it comes from a world-class musician and his 325-year-old cello. Zuill Bailey’s instrument has logged about 6 million miles (it even gets its own plane ticket), and last week he brought it to Crabapple Crossing and Summit Hill elementary schools, inspiring roughly 1,000 students.
Bailey kicked off Music Milton’s education program with lessons on the power of silence, the mantra “practice makes permanent,” aiming for your best instead of chasing perfection, a learning tour of the cello’s parts, and even the proper way to say “Bach.”
This was the first of many public programs from Music Milton, a new non-profit dedicated to connecting young people with the power of music and bringing elite talents to the community to perform.
