Celebrating 125 Years of Mount Zion AME Church: A Legacy of Faith, Community, and Civic Leadership in College Park

Today, the City of College Park celebrates a significant milestone as Rev. Esther K. Powers receives a Proclamation of Recognition from Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Jamelle McKenzie. This recognition honors the 125th Anniversary of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, a cornerstone of faith and community.

Founded in 1900, Mount Zion AME Church has consistently served as a beacon of spiritual strength and civic leadership in the city. Throughout its rich history, the church has been home to remarkable individuals who have shaped the legacy of College Park, including Mr. Jefferson Franklin Beavers, Miss Eva Louise Thomas, Wayman and Bessie Brady, and Willie J. Freeman, Sr.

This celebration not only recognizes the church’s achievements but also honors its deep commitment to faith, education, and the upliftment of the community. Congratulations to Mount Zion AME Church on 125 years of impactful service!
