Project Progress: Construction continues on Fire Station 63 & Police Substation. Over the past month, crews have completed major exterior work including the ponds, concrete driveways, sidewalks, base paving, and fencing. Inside the building, progress has been just as strong, with window treatments, bathrooms, countertops, flooring, and key mechanical components wrapped up as recently as this week. Additionally, IT and Public Works have finished connecting the facility to the City’s fiber network, ensuring the station is fully integrated into citywide systems.
In the next few weeks, crews will finalize HVAC work, apply the top coat of paving, conduct site cleanup and pressure washing, and begin inspections required for the certificate of occupancy. After the certificate of occupancy is issued, contractors will complete punch list items, followed by the installation of alerting equipment, a signal preemption device, and station appliances.
The new 14,675-square foot combined fire and police station will be located on a 2.11-acre site on Brumbelow Road. It will replace the existing Fire Station 63 that is currently located a half-mile away on Old Alabama Road as well as the existing police substation currently located in The Fresh Market shopping center on Old Alabama Road.
The state-of-the-art station will include a 13,891-square foot station house and a 766-square-foot storage facility. It will feature two double-depth bays for trucks, work areas, a kitchen and dining room, day room facilities, bunk rooms, an apparatus bay, and more.
Construction is expected to be completed in the spring.
