### Fulton County Reports on Homelessness Trends
They have officially released the January 2025 Point-in-Time Count (PIT) report highlighting the significant challenges faced by the homeless community in Fulton County. The CoC’s findings show that over 40% of individuals experiencing homelessness are unsheltered.
On January 28, 2025, a total of 241 homeless individuals were counted within the county. Among them, 103 individuals were identified as unsheltered—living in places not meant for human habitation—while 138, or 57%, were in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs. This marks a notable 28.9% decrease from the previous year’s total.
Stan Wilson, Director of Community Development for Fulton County, emphasized the importance of this vital project. “This ongoing effort allows us to collect necessary data to understand the demographics and situations faced by those experiencing homelessness,” he stated. The goal is not only to gather data but also to connect these unsheltered individuals and families with available resources.
The report includes additional details:
– 69% of homeless households identified were adults.
– 28.2% of such households included one adult and one child.
– 18.7% of those counted were children under age 18.
Yearly, the PIT Count strives to identify vulnerable populations. Volunteers and service providers traverse Fulton County to conduct surveys and gather crucial information aimed at alleviating barriers to housing.
The critical insights from this Count will guide future policies and initiatives designed to facilitate support and encourage community involvement while seeking effective solutions. The CoC utilizes this real-time data to present a clearer picture of individuals entering and exiting the homeless system and those successfully transitioning into permanent housing.
