Council members Andrea L. Boone and Michael Julian Bond commemorated the remarkable life of Reverend Yvonne Shaw with a Proclamation presentation during her funeral service. This service took place on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, located at 815 Lynhurst Drive SW.
Reverend Shaw was renowned as an educator and a steadfast advocate for justice and civic engagement. Her most notable contribution as a community organizer was leading the Historic Southwest Atlanta Cascade Christmas Kwanza Parade, which stood as a yearly celebration embodying her love for giving back to the community and creatively showcasing costumes and parade floats.
